European Congress of Conservation Biology 2026 in Leiden

In July 2026 I presented our latest work on Key Biodiversity Areas, Opportunities and challenges for applying Key Biodiversity Areas Criterion E at large spatial scales, at ECCB 2026 in Leiden. It is always nice to spend these days with old friends and meet new colleagues!

In this study we tested KBA Criterion E and its application across Europe using an amazing database of habitat suitability maps for tetrapod and insect species. If you want to know more, here's the preprint: link.

Highly cited paper

I am very pleased that my paper A standard approach for including climate change responses in IUCN Red List assessments has been recognized as one of the top 10 most-cited papers published in Conservation Biology in 2025.

This study is the result of a collaboration between modelers and Red List authorities aimed at standardizing the measurement of the impact of future climate change in the context of Red List extinction risk assessments. Full paper: link.
